FOR this column, I am inspired by the ideas of my good friend, former diplomat, fellow historian and educator, Prof. Ferdinand Victoria. Currently based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Prof. Victoria and I maintain a robust social media group chat with our colleague from the University of the Philippines, Dr. Vicente Villan, where current affairs are discussed.
Prof. Victoria posited a very disturbing observation: the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis has very subtly exposed either the continuing racism of the West or a blatant double standard in its international affairs.
