(UPDATED) THREE presidential candidates ended their campaigns in Metro Manila on Saturday on a high note as thousands of their supporters braved the heat and the Covid-19 pandemic to be able to see them before the elections on Monday, May 9, 2022.

Former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., who has been dominant in pre-election surveys, together with running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, held their miting de Avance at Block 7, fronting Solaire in Parañaque City.

UniTeam supporters, clad in red, Marcos' campaign color, shouted "Marcos-Duterte" as they waved Philippine flags.

As of press time, performances from singer-actress Pops Fernandez, rock band Aegis and other singers supporting the tandem entertained the crowd.

The Luzon miting de avance was one of the UniTeam's series of final campaign rallies, days before Election Day.

Before the Parañaque rally, the UniTeam had its first and second miting de avance in Guimbal, Iloilo and Tagum City, Davao del Norte, respectively.

Color it pink

Ayala Avenue in Makati City was swathed in pink, the campaign color of Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo and running mate Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan as it hosted the tandem's final campaign rally dubbed "Angat Buhay Pilipino Miting de Avance."

Dada Arejola, a 42-year-old housewife from Pasig City, came to the miting de avance because she saw "so much hope with Leni-Kiko."

Arejola said that Robredo and Pangilinan's character and values were a "good reflection" of their kind of leadership.

Nanay Neneng, 62, said in Filipino that she saw in Robredo's character the "determination to help." She said this was why "in my own little way," she wanted to help by participating in this event.

Like Marcos, Robredo's grand rally was also star-studded with Gary Valenciano and his son Gabriel, Kim Chiu, Bianca Gonzales, Yeng Constantino, Anne Curtis and Ms. Universe 2018 Catriona Gray among the celebrities who were present. Megastar Sharon Cuneta serenaded the estimated 750,000 crowd, as per organizers' estimate, with one of her songs, "Pangarap na Bituin."

Back to where it all started

Isko Moreno, the Aksyon Demokratiko standard-bearer returned to Tondo where, he said in Filipino, "it all started."

Domagoso was joined by his running mate Dr. Willie Ong and his senatorial slate at the Moriones Linear Park.

The Manila chief executive talked about his humble beginnings — first as a garbage collector in the streets of Tondo, then as an actor.

Domagoso thanked residents of Tondo, saying, "If it weren't for you, I would not be where I stand today."

Track record

Romeo Rosal Jr., 33, a resident, said Domagoso's track record mattered to him more than what the other candidates had to offer.

Rosal said Domagoso was the only government official whose help he felt during the pandemic.

Richardcloyd Pinangay who traveled all the way from Bulacan said Domagoso "acts even before he speaks."

Pinangay said he fixed Manila in the short time that he was mayor and believed that he could duplicate this feat in the Philippines.

Ace Diamond Ventura from Recto in Manila said Domagoso was his choice because he was "a real person."

Lacson's hope

Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson and his running mate, Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd, capped their campaign with a miting de avance in Lacson's home province of Cavite on Friday, followed by a caravan in parts of Southern Luzon Saturday.

In a post on his Twitter account early Saturday, Lacson voiced hopes that the Philippines and the Filipino people will become "one nation, one people again."

"Dear God. Thank You for keeping us ALL safe from illness and injury as we finish the race to submit ourselves to the will of the people. May the bitterness and animosity be buried with the memories of the most grueling 90 days of our lives and be one nation, one people again," he said.

It was a roller coaster ride for the former chief of the Philippine National Police as his own party, Partido Reproma, decided to support another presidential candidate in the middle of the campaign, which forced him to resign and run as an independent.

Focus on Cebu

Promdi presidential candidate Sen. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao ended his campaign with a grand rally at the 3rd Avenue North Reclamation Area in Cebu City on Thursday, May 6, 2022.

During the event, Pacquiao reiterated his call to all Cebuanos for them to support a fellow "Bisaya" (Visayan) and one whose roots are from Cebu.

Pacquiao wooed the vote-rich Visayan province with a three-day political blitzkrieg that started in Southern Cebu covering Minglanilla, Talisay, Naga City, and San Fernando, Carcar City, Sibonga, Argao, Toledo, and Balamban.

Pacquiao began the second day of his scheduled sorties from Balamban to cover the northern towns of Asturias, Tuburan, Tabuelan, San Remigio, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Bogo, Tabogon, Barbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostella, Danao, Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue and Carbon with a series of caravan and people's rallies.

Pacquiao's motorcade from Balamban until his people's rally in Barangay Lambusan, San Remigio became an arduous seven-hour journey as people who were waiting for him along the way would block his convoy just to shake his hands. The normal travel time is only 2.5 hours.

He said that poor Filipinos have finally realized that they have been used and abused by wealthy politicians who regard politics as a business and not a commitment to serve the people, especially the poor.

Candidate awareness

Meanwhile, Partido Lakas ng Masa standard-bearer Leodegario "Ka Leody" de Guzman held his party's miting de avance at the Quezon Memorial Circle on Wednesday.

De Guzman said although he has consistently lagged in voter preference surveys, his presidential campaign has certainly allowed him to tap a wider platform, with more people aware of him and his programs as opposed to his 2019 senatorial run.
