An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member allegedly involved in the 2002 Jehovah's Witness kidnapping and the Lamitan Siege was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), according to the Southern Police District (SPD) Friday afternoon.
SPD director BGen. Jimili Macaraeg identified the apprehended suspect as Omar Bin Harun alias Airola, 52, of Barangay Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City.
He was arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday at the NAIA Terminal 2 along Pasay City.
Police said Airola used a Malaysian passport under the name of Omar Bin Harun. He was held upon arrival for verification at the Office of BI Port Operation Center where a custodial debriefing revealed he is a Filipino citizen and is using the Malaysian passport as a way to hide his real identity.
Airola was brought to the SPD's DID for documentation and was later informed about his arrest.
"SPD in coordination with other law enforcement agencies is conducting a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering to determine the reason for his return to the country considering he is a fugitive wanted by law," Macaraeg said.
