First of 2 parts

The smoke of the elections has billowed, and their results have been inevitably clearer. Presidents of the United States, China, Israel, Australia, Japan and the European Union have sent their congratulatory greetings. We have a new set of leaders whom the majority of us Filipinos have willed. Former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. or BBM is our president-elect with a record, an unprecedented and an overwhelming mandate from 31 million plus Filipinos — surpassing the erstwhile largest 16 million votes for President Rodrigo Duterte in 2016. A slightly higher number of votes (56,000 more than BBM's) catapulted Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to the vice presidency, a number also for the books. A remarkable occasion in a multi-party electoral exercise where the winning president and the vice president were running mates.
