Govt doubles efforts to boost demand, growth

BEIJING: Facing downward pressures and increasing uncertainties, China has stepped up efforts to invigorate domestic demand and strengthen the growth engine of the world's second-largest economy.

A meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in late April reiterated the importance of expanding local demand. It also called for reinforcing infrastructure construction and letting consumption facilitate economic circulation.
