THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) slashed the fees for certificates by more than 50 percent to help the seafarers during the pandemic.

Marina Memorandum Circular SC-2022-02 provides for the reduction in fees of certificate of proficiency (COP) and certificate of competency (COC), as aids to the seafaring industry, which was impacted by the pandemic.

The fee for COP issuance or replacement was reduced from P200 to P130 for regular and from P600 to P330 for expedited applications. The COC fee was lowered from P1,000 to P530 for regular and from P1,500 to P780 for expedited applications.

Marina said seafarers who previously filed applications that are being evaluated shall be charged based on the old fees.

To avail of the adjusted fees, applicants were advised to cancel their existing applications and reapply. However, this will entail a slight delay, as the application will pass through the same process.
