FILIPINO culture has never failed to mesmerize. A single word cannot describe it as it is rightfully referred to as a potpourri of sorts. It brings to the table something new and something old in terms of tradition, married by a rich history covering periods of colonization and subsequent independence.

The culture is often seen in works of art and literature as well as in our creativity with slang words like "lodi" (idol in reverse) to describe those we look up to as role models. Also, hints of the Filipino persona and self are evident in the way we live and act. We see this still in our modern way of living. Think bayanihan (cooperative undertaking), pamamanhikan (formal marriage proposal) and even pagmamano (touching elders' hands to foreheads as a sign of respect). We have strong family ties and an equally strong religious faith. All these radiate and form the Filipinos' loob (inner self), their virtues and attitudes toward their kapwa (fellow men).
