P12.68-trillion debt will torpedo P20 per kg rice

A FOOD crisis of unprecedented severity and geographical reach has been roiling the world for months, mostly the food-short nations in Africa and Europe and those which are 100-percent reliant on Russia-Ukraine supplied foodstuffs, like Egypt and Lebanon. The World Food Program said the global map is littered with food-insecure nations that are struggling with both shortages of basic food items and surging prices. Emerging and middle economies have borne the brunt of food shortages and skyrocketing food prices.

Famine, the dreaded word, is now a possibility in many parts of the globe, if it is not already there. Malnourished children in refugee camps tell the heartbreaking story of the grave mass suffering from the food crisis.
