THE Filipino pair of Jann Mari Nayre and Angelou Joyce Laude absorbed a 5-11, 6-11, 1-11 beating from Singaporeans Chew Zheyu Clarence and Zeng Jian in the mixed doubles quarterfinal round on Monday in the South East Asia Table Tennis Championships at the Fashion Island Hall in Pattaya, Thailand.

Another Filipino duo, Japheth Adasa and Kheith Rhynne Cruz, failed to reach the semifinal round after bowing to Padask Tanviriyavechakul and Suthasini Sawettabut of Thailand, 3-11, 8-11, 5-11, in the other match.

Meanwhile, Nayre survived Dinh Anh Hoang of Vietnam, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, in the first round of the men's singles. But he fell to Chew, 6-11, 7-11, 5-11, in the next round.

Japheth Adasa and John Michael Castro fought gallantly in the first round but failed to advance. Adasa was beaten by Satapond Jermplang of Thailand, 11-9, 5-11, 2-11, 8-11, while Castro succumbed to another Thai, Phakpoom Sanguansin, 11-7, 6-11, 12-14, 7-11.

In the women's singles, Emy Rose Dael yielded to Karen Lyne Anak Dick of Malaysia, 7-11, 9-11, 9-11, in the second round while Kheith Rhynne Cruz lost to Tee Ai Xin, 9-11, 7-11, 12-14.

Dael and Cruz made an early exit in the women's doubles event. Dael and partner Keziah Bien Ablaza surrendered to Novida Widarahman and Siti Aminah of Indonesia, 11-4, 6-11, 10-12, 12-10, 3-11.

Cruz, teaming up with Laude, were eliminated by Nguyen Khoa Die Khanh and Nguyen Thuy Kieu My, 6-11, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 8-11.

Last week, the Philippines bagged one silver courtesy of J-Ann Sanchez and Jigyasa Cabrido (cadet girls doubles) and three bronze medals coming from Emmanuel Paculba Jr. and Gabriel Docto (cadet boys doubles), and the junior boys and girls teams in the 26th South East Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships held in the same venue.
