TWO Filipinos were among the 18 Missionaries of Charity nuns that were expelled from Nicaragua as part of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega's indiscriminate persecution against everything that has a direct or indirect relationship with the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said based on a report by Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, the nuns were taken by the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration and the police from the cities of Managua and Granada, where they had been serving the poor, to the border country of Costa Rica on June 6.
