The NBA's Godfather

WHILE the rest of the NBA is playing checkers, Pat Riley is playing chess. Riley is considered as one of the smartest, shrewdest personalities in the NBA. He was christened as the Godfather of the NBA for his resemblance to Corleone in the iconic movie, but when he became both coach and executive, it became evident that Riley didn't just look the part of a mastermind, he lived it.

One of Riley's landmark accomplishments is his daring choice for a head coach, and how he stuck to his decision. Of course, we celebrate that because it's our own Erik Spoelstra, but Riley, who also rose from the ranks being a video editor, knew that Spoelstra is ready and qualified for the job. Riley noticed Spo's analytical ability and evaluation skills, and that was evident throughout the past decade.
