THERE is a lot of talk today on the revision or amendment of the 1987 Constitution as well as the use of the Filipino language in the Constitution and laws of the Philippines. In my humble opinion, this is a good proposal which can be a challenge for a Philippine legal system that has always been heavily reliant on the English language and US legal principles.

But since we are now writing our own Philippine Constitution, would it not be good to actually have our own fundamental law written in the Filipino language? It would be challenging for the legal system, but I believe it is a challenge worth taking.
