THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded all registered political parties and coalition of political parties that they have only until August 15 to file the required Annual Sworn Information Update Statement (SIUS) or risk cancellation of their registration.

Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco on Friday said the filing is mandatory pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10411 for purposes of determining the current status of registered political parties or coalition of political parties.

The SIUS should state the full name of a political party, organization, or coalition of political parties with an acronym; principal headquarters and office address, including its branches and division, if any; date or registration; and constituency.

Covered by the Comelec directive were a total of 171 political groups, consisting of 46 national political parties, 32 regional constituencies and 93 local constituencies.

Laudiangco warned that failure to comply is enough ground for the commission to proceed with the cancellation proceedings.

He cited Section 2 of Resolution 10411 which states that: "Failure to comply with the preceding requirement despite due notice shall constitute prima facie evidence that the political party or coalition of political parties concerned already ceased to exist, and shall be a cause for the cancellation of the party's and coalition's registration after due notice and hearing."
