JAKARTA: Indonesia plans to produce at least 35 million foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine doses by the end of 2023 in a bid to stop the spread of the deadly animal illness in the Southeast Asian archipelago after more than 35 years.

More than 20 provinces in Indonesia have reported cases of the disease. More than 460,000 livestock animals were infected and over 4,700 dead, data from the country's National FMD Task Force showed.
