THE Department of Science and Technology (DoST) claimed that the Philippine government lost around P10 billion in revenue due to poor market surveillance and enforcement of penalties to regulate measuring instruments, as the Metrology Act of 2003 was claimed to be "outdated."

It urged the government to review and update the law, as an estimated P240 million in revenue loss was attributed to having inaccurate weighing instruments.
