AN 18th-century church in Ilocos Sur designated as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) World Heritage Site has been elevated to an archdiocesan shrine.
The Augustinian Friars of the Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus of the Philippines announced the new status of Nuestra Señora De la Asuncion Parish Church, commonly known as the Santa Maria Church, during the celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady on Monday.
