SINGAPORE: The past week has been something of an emotionally touching one for me, on both personal and — I dare say — global levels. There was the World Humanitarian Day (WHD) on August 19, three days after my birthday. It was partly to commemorate the death 19 years ago of Sergio Vieira de Mello, the then United Nations coordinator for Iraq (which was occupied by United States-led allied forces), in a terrorist bomb attack.
