Lobby for sugar importation bared

ACTING Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Administrator Dave Alba on Thursday said that groups are lobbying in Congress for the liberalization in the importation of sugar for soft drinks manufacturers.

"Lobby groups are active and just yesterday, the Chair of the Committee on Agriculture and Food in Congress was reported in the media saying that the beverage industry should have its separate sugar importation orders so as not to affect the price in the local market," Alba said in his speech at the Philippine Sugar Technologists Association, Inc. (Philsutech) Convention in SMX, Bacolod City.
