BEIJING: China's manufacturing sector regained momentum last month after slipping in July, offering Beijing fresh hope that the world's second-largest economy would sustain its recovery.

The East Asian country's purchasing managers' index (PMI) for the sector climbed to 49.4 in August from 49 the month before, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Wednesday.
