HIGH prices and shortages of some basic food commodities have again drawn attention to the broad topic of food security, which the Philippines has been working to achieve for decades, with unfortunately largely disappointing results. A couple of news items this past week have highlighted one aspect of the food security issue that is generally overlooked: Any effort to achieve food security is necessarily incomplete, and will likely not fully accomplish its goals without addressing the issue of "agrifood waste."
