LOCAL shares breached the 6,000 psychological support level as the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) dropped by 140.39 points, or 2.33 percent, on Wednesday to close at 5,879.68.

Analysts said that higher interest rates and global recession fears continued dominating the equities market, with other regional indices falling deeper into bear market territory.
