Defending champion University of the Philippines (UP) escaped De La Salle University (DLSU), 72-69, on Saturday for a winning start in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men's basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Evan Nelle drained a triple to pull the Green Archers within one, 69-70, in the last 6.6 seconds, but Carl Tamayo made it a three-point lead for the Fighting Maroons by sinking two free throws with four seconds to go.
