LEONARDO da Vinci started his career in 1467 at age 15 as an apprentice to the renowned painter Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence, Italy. At first, he would perform simple chores, almost as a servant would — despite his IQ of 180 to 220. At age 20, da Vinci was offered membership in the painters' guild of Florence, but he humbly remained with Verrocchio until he became an independent master in 1478.
