AIMING to provide new fast-track solutions to solve the world's water scarcity challenge, Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) and Norwegian company EnviroNor AS recently signed a memorandum of understanding to discuss collaboration on a floating desalination vessel (FDV) and its eventual commercialization.

FDV is a floating infrastructure vessel equipped with seawater desalination equipment using reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, which remove impurities other than water, to produce fresh water (drinking water) and supply it to shore.
