SEN. Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros wants the Senate to look at the maritime training of Filipinos which has been criticized by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) for not complying with international standards for training.
In its 2020 assessment, EMSA said that the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) did not ensure that all training and assessment met the standards mandated by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers or the STCW Convention.
