LET'S avoid ambiguity and jump straight to the point: there is no useful reason for the government, or anyone else in this country, to be indulging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s childlike fixation on acquiring a shiny new toy in the form of nuclear power. There are plenty of useful reasons for the governments with whom he's discussed the matter, of course — who wouldn't appreciate a potential new export market that offers a naïveté dividend — but it is a luxury the Philippines likely cannot afford, and certainly doesn't need.
