DESPITE Russia's many barbaric acts "shredding the international order before our eyes," the report that US Secretary State Anthony Blinken had called for the expulsion of Russia has proved at least premature. What Blinken stated was that, amid the war crimes committed in Bucha, "it was reasonable to question Russia's continued membership in the Security Council."

Earlier, after President Vladimir Putin annexed Ukraine's Eastern territories on the basis of sham referenda, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested in a virtual address to the council the removal of Russia as permanent member with veto power, or the abolition of the Security Council.
