(UPDATE) THE chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., on Thursday submitted his courtesy resignation and urged the rest of the police leadership to follow his lead as the "cleansing" of the force begins.

Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. has called on all police generals and colonels to hand in their courtesy resignations so he could rid the PNP of officials with links to drug traffickers.
