AS we celebrate National Bible Month this January, I would like to honor a forgotten pioneer, English biblical scholar and linguist William Tyndale, who first translated the Bible into English from the original Greek and Hebrew text. Tyndale's work was a challenge for the Catholic Church then because his aim was to, in his words, "cause a boy that driveth the plough to know more scripture than the clergy of the day." The linguist intended to make the Bible more accessible to as many people as possible, most of whom, during that time, were poorly educated.
