I AM having my 15 minutes of fame for our invention of "Nipahol" as a substitute for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Just this month, I was interviewed on TV by CNN Philippines, ABS-CBN, GMA 7, PTV4, Radyo Agila and Radyo Pilipinas.

But our team at the National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center have their eyes focused on a bigger prize than fuel for cooking stoves: We want Nipahol used in gasoline blends. Since 2010, we have been studying hydrous ethanol, the azeotropic form of ethanol containing 5 percent water in gasoline blends.
