EASIER said than done, of course. But President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s perspective on China and Asia, told to China Global Television Network or CGTN during his Beijing visit, may just show the way to a so-called golden age of harmony and cooperation not just between China and the Philippines, but between the Asian superpower and the Asian super-region of Southeast Asia.

Quite simply, if our two countries, with all our recent frictions, could build harmony, understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation with effective mechanisms for peaceful dispute resolution, then so might the rest of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). Even Vietnam, which has fought battles with China, has strengthened ties as seen in the October red-carpet welcome for Vietnamese Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong.
