5 fishermen dead as bad weather lingers over Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay: Bad weather has claimed the lives of five fishermen here, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Thursday.

Gremil Naz, OCD regional spokesman, said two other fishermen were missing.

He added that the fatalities were from the municipalities of Jovellar in Albay, Talisay and Labo in Camarines Norte, Gubat in Sorsogon and San Jose in Camarines Sur.

A shear line was also blamed for floods, landslides, torrential rains in the Bicol Region for several weeks now.

The boat carrying the five fishermen and seven others, including the two who later went missing, capsized off Canimog Island, Mercedes, Camarines Norte, on Thursday after being hammered by huge waves.

The OCD Bicol reported that at least 475 families or 1,879 persons are still displaced or have been evacuated in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
