UNITED Nations agencies have welcomed the pledge of leaders from 12 African countries to end the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in children by 2030.

The vow was announced on Wednesday during the first ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance to end AIDS in children in the city of Dar Es Salaam, eastern Tanzania. The gathering was a step up in efforts to ensure to all children with the AIDS-causing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can access life-saving treatment, and that HIV-positive mothers can have babies free from the virus.
