The energy environment here is for a variety of reasons several steps behind the rest of the world in terms of development, and even lags behind neighboring countries, against whom the Philippines should be comparable or even superior, such as Indonesia. In many respects, the country is still coming to grips with things that have been considered normal parts of the energy landscape for years elsewhere, such as widespread deployment of renewable energy and basic competitiveness in energy supply and pricing.
