STOCKHOLM: Sweden's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) despite delays by Hungary and Turkey to ratify its membership bid, which is likely to lead to Sweden joining after neighboring Finland.

The vote, which paved the way for the North European country's NATO accession and provides the necessary legal framework, passed with 269 votes in favor and 37 against, with 43 members of parliament (MPs) not attending in Sweden's 349-seat legislature.
