A LEGAL battle that could reach the Supreme Court looms between the provincial government of the newly created province of Maguindanao del Norte and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) over moves to unseat the province's acting governor Bai Fatima Ainee Sinsuat, veteran election lawyer Manuelito Luna said.

Luna, at a weekend forum in Quezon City, said that the BARMM's move has no legal basis, as the term of office of the incumbent set of Maguindanao del Norte officials, led by Sinsuat, was clearly spelled out under Section 50 of Republic Act (RA) 55110, the law that separated the mother Maguindanao province into two separate provinces, also known as the "Charter of the Provinces of Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur."
