SB 1061, another useless Senate bill

A MAJOR television network reported last Wednesday the filing of Senate Bill (SB) 1061 by Sen. Sherwin "Win" Gatchalian, thus making it appear that it was recently filed or that the bill had some semblance of importance.

In reality, it was the opposite. SB 1061, "An Act Providing an Additional Ground for Canceling the Certificate of Candidacy of a Nuisance Candidate and Making the Acts of a Nuisance Candidate an Election Offense, Amending Sections 69, 261 (CC) and 264 of Batas Pambansa Blg. 881, Otherwise Known as the 'Omnibus Election Code Of The Philippines,' as Amended, and for Other Purposes," was filed late last year, specifically on Aug. 8, 2022. This is another useless legislative work which does not deserve to be passed into law.
