DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia "Toni" Yulo-Loyzaga and governors Hermilando Mandanas of Batangas and Presbitero Velasco Jr. of Marinduque have agreed to support legislation that makes the Verde Island Passage (VIP) a protected area.
Yulo-Loyzaga said that the legal protection for one of the world's vast marine biodiversity will keep VIP as a sanctuary to thousands of marine species and off limits to business activities that will threaten its ecosystem.
