LABUAN BAJO, Indonesia: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday urged his fellow leaders in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to work together to ensure that the South China Sea "does not become a nexus for armed conflict" in the region.

The President issued the statement as he affirmed the Philippines' commitment to the implementation of the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and the early conclusion of an effective and substantive Code of Conduct (COC) for the disputed waterway.
