PRESIDENT Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has appointed former National Press Club of the Philippines president Paul Gutierrez as executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), Malacañang confirmed Monday.

Gutierrez's appointment paper was signed by the President last May 19.

He is the third former leader of the NPC to serve in government following Benny Antiporda and Joel Egco, the latter having occupied the PTFoMS' top post throughout the Duterte administration.

The task force was established through Administrative Order No. 1 issued by then President Rodrigo Duterte on October 14, 2016 with the mandate of ensuring the safety and security of Filipino media workers against threats and harassment.

Prior to his appointment, Gutierrez was a columnist and field reporter of the Journal Group.
