IT was only in 2018 that the Manila Central Post Office, the neoclassical building completed in 1928 and reconstructed after World War 2, was declared an "Important Cultural Property." This designation comes with government funding and assistance by nature of the designation.

The Manila post office building's location was chosen by Daniel Burnham, who, during the American Occupation, was selected to design Manila as a modern capital. He located it at the foot of Jones Bridge, because it was possible to get to it from all the then-environs of Manila — Intramuros, Binondo, Quiapo, Malate and Ermita. And it was near the Pasig River, through which mail could be brought to it by boat, if necessary.
