THE state-run weather agency said on Tuesday that the low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Visayas will likely escalate into a tropical depression in the next 24 or 48 hours but would unlikely affect the country.

Daniel James Villamil of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is the southwest monsoon or "habagat" that would dump rain in most parts of the country in the coming days.
