IN recently held focused group discussions and forum organized by the National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel), participants stressed the need to uphold the principle of secret voting, public counting of the votes in the automated election system (AES) to be used in the 2025 national and local elections and in future elections where an AES shall be used.

Noting that the national and local elections have been automated since 2010 and vote recording and counting has been hidden from public view, participants described transparency of the vote count as providing the voters with a way for voters to see that the votes are properly recorded and counted while upholding the secrecy of the ballot.
