THE heat index in Metro Manila may reach up to 40 degrees celsius, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday as it advised the public to protect themselves against the hot weather.

The heat index is defined as what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with air temperature.
