THE new European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) that became law at the end of June of this year is a landmark piece of legislation that aims to ensure agricultural products imported by the EU are produced and sourced sustainably. Until now, most of the attention given to the EUDR and its implications has focused on its impact on the palm oil industry in Indonesia and Malaysia, but between now and December 30 of next year, when the EUDR will be fully enforced, it will have a significant influence on some of our valuable agriculture sectors as well, primarily coffee.
