IN the update to stakeholders on the preparations for the 2025 national and local elections and the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections held last Nov. 29, 2024, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the digital signing of the election returns generated by the automated counting machines by the members of the electoral boards (EB), previously called the board of election inspectors (BEIs), will no longer be implemented because very few teachers have registered with the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) operated by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The DICT said only about 3,000 out of 13,000 teachers, mostly from Region 3 (Central Luzon), who registered with DICT's PNPKI have activated their registration.
