A RECENT news report said that, in 2024, "preliminary figures recorded about 2.47 million Filipinos leaving the Philippines to work overseas — a number higher than the previous year's estimates."

The creation of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in 1974 facilitated the government's "labor export" strategy. In 2022, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) further institutionalized export of Filipino talent. The Asean integration also facilitated the outflow of Filipino workers to neighboring countries.
