THE unexpected change in leadership in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has raised significant questions about the region's political stability, governance and the future of the ongoing peace process. As a Mindanao Muslim and a public servant committed to the region's advancement, I find it important to acknowledge the complexities of this development and its potential impact on the people of BARMM.

BARMM, established through the historic 2014 peace agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), represents a hard-earned victory for self-determination, peace and autonomy. The region's leadership, especially the chief minister, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the aspirations of the people in Muslim Mindanao are met and that the foundations of this newly autonomous government are solidified.
