IN his column in The Manila Times on Saturday, March 22, climate advocate Ludwig Federigan made an impassioned plea to make addressing climate change a critical issue in this year's midterm elections, the campaign for which begins in earnest tomorrow, March 28. We agree with Mr. Federigan; climate change absolutely must be addressed by the aspirants for office. As he so eloquently explained, the Philippines is one of the most climate change-vulnerable countries in the world, experiencing its effects in stronger storms, flooding, drought and heat waves. Without a strong, comprehensive response, the various economic losses from climate change impacts could reach the equivalent of 13 percent of our annual gross domestic product by 2040.
