IN a message to troops of the Northern Luzon Command last week, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. issued a directive that our military should "be prepared for war" amid signs of increased Chinese aggression toward Taiwan. This was unfortunately immediately misinterpreted by much of the media and the public, and used by some malicious actors on social media to sow misinformation and alarm.
